The History Of Trawl Fishing
Feb 07, 2018

As early as the 10th to 14th centuries, Europe had been engaged in large-scale trawling. The record of overcast fishing in trawl fisheries in the 1376 British Parliament also shows that trawling in the North European fisheries is quite common.

From the 12th to the 14th centuries, trawling fishing was also used in Asian countries such as Japan.

The mid-19th century, mobile single-trawler operations have appeared in France and Britain.

In 1894, the Scots invented the direct-action stencil trawler to replace the long-used cross-beam trawling, thereby increasing the horizontal and vertical opening dimensions of the net mouth and further improving the fishing efficiency.

At the beginning of the 20th century, France invented a VD-type trawl connected by a hand mesh between a mesh sleeve and a mesh sleeve, resulting in a substantial increase in the area swept by trawls and a significant increase in catches. As a result, the fishing gear is quickly adopted by fishery countries in the world and becomes the mode of modern trawling.

In 1948, R. Larsen, Denmark, created the fishing gear and fishing method for double-trawler mid-level trawling operations. Later, a single-vessel middle-level trawling gear and fishing method were introduced to extend the traditional working water level from bottom to all water levels .

In 1954, the successful single-tail trawler trawling operation in the United Kingdom was gradually becoming the major form of modern large-scale trawling operations.
