How To Choose Nylon Monofilament Fishing Line

When anglers buy fishing lines, they usually listen to the introduction of the owner of the fishing tackle store, or buy a brand they are familiar with. However, for an unknown fishing line, the quality of the fishing line can generally be determined by the following methods.

1.   Diameter.

Some anglers use vernier calipers to measure the line diameter, but for thick lines above size 2, they still have a certain degree of accuracy. But measuring thin lines is very inaccurate.

The most suitable measurement tool that fishermen can find is a screw micrometer. Spiral micrometers measure the dimensions of rigid objects. When measuring the fishing line, the data will be significantly smaller. But you can compare the thickness of the two lines. Twist the adjustment knob with the same force, and pull the line under test. When the tension is the same, the degree of clamping will be roughly the same.

The above step is extremely important: increase the diameter by a few microns, and the strength may increase by tens of percent. Because the pulling force increases squarely with the diameter.

2、The same thickness of fishing line, compare knot tension. After the two lines are tied, pull them together, and try a few more times.

3、Scrape. Place two identical threads side by side and swipe vigorously with your fingernail several times. Look at the degree of curl. Then use your fingertips to smooth it out to see the degree of recovery.

4、Check the malleability of the main line. Take a line of about 1 meter and pull it repeatedly with great force. After it is broken, measure the length again to see the amount of elongation. Note: It's not like some anglers say, pull-pull to see how much elongation and elasticity it is.

5、 The word "touch" is not reliable. Some high-grade wires are packaged in cylinders when they come in and out, and they are not rolled in parallel when winding, so that there is pressure on each other and it is not smooth. Such a line is not necessarily bad, it is very likely to be a particularly good line. Conversely, a very smooth line is not necessarily good. It is even more impossible to touch the thickness. How can it be possible to touch the diameter of several micrometers? However, the diameter of several micrometers may cause several tens of percent of the tension change.

6、Look at the transparency and verticality. This makes sense , however, the transparency and vertical effects do not affect performance, just look better.

The model of the fishing line refers to the thickness of the fishing line, which is marked. It indicates the diameter of the cross section of the fishing line, but because the number of digits is too long, the number system is uniformly adopted. The larger the number, the thicker the number, and the smaller the number, the thinner. , a total of 29 sizes.

It should be noted that it does not mean that the number of fishing lines differs by many times, and the diameter of the fishing line differs by many times. In fact, the number of fishing line is proportional to the cross-sectional area of the fishing line. How many times the number of a fishing line is the number of another fishing line, the cross-sectional area and strength of this fishing line are how many times the cross-sectional area and strength of that fishing line, but the diameter of this fishing line is only The square root of the multiple of the line number. Since there are many types of nylon, even if they are the same type, the degree of polymerization of the material will be different depending on the level of production technology of each manufacturer, which will reflect the large difference in the tensile strength of the fishing line. The above discussion is based on the same material or the same brand.

The line used by master anglers is generally thin. Most of the bus bars they use are No. 06 (0.12 mm), No. 08 (0.14 mm), No. 1.0 (0.16 mm), No. 1.2 (0.18 mm), and only No. 0.4 (0.1 mm), No. 0.6, No. 0.8 are used for the sub-wires. , 1.0 several. Many fishermen just buy No. 2 (0.225mm) and No. 3 (0.3mm) lines, and use No. 5 for ordinary pool fishing.

(0.375mm) and No. 10 (0.52mm) lines are also widely available, in fact, these are not necessary.

For beginners, the type of fishing line required for fishing depends on the water and target fish. If it is a river, river, lake or reservoir, because there are many big fish, it is recommended to use a thick fishing line; if you are fishing for crucian carp in a fish pond or fish pond, you can use line 1; if you are fishing in the wild For fish, of course, the thinner the line, the better, especially in static waters, thin lines should be used, preferably 0.8-1.2 lines. On the contrary, if it is dynamic waters and the water flow is relatively urgent, thick lines should be used.
